Why a Pre-Wedding Photoshoot is More Important Than You Think

…and why it might be one of the best decisions you make before the big day.

“Do we really need a pre-wedding shoot?”

Short answer? I truly believe it’s one of the most valuable things you can do – and not just for the photos.

As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen first-hand how a relaxed pre-wedding shoot can change everything: how you feel on the day, how natural your photos look, and even how much you enjoy the process.

Here’s why I recommend a pre-wedding session to every couple I work with:

REASON 1: YOU GET COMFORTABLE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA

Let’s be honest – most people aren’t used to being photographed professionally.

A pre-wedding shoot gives you the chance to get used to the camera, and more importantly, to get used to me being behind it. We’ll figure out how you move best, what makes you laugh, and how to capture you as you – not posed, not stiff, just natural and real.

By the time your wedding comes around, it won’t feel like you’re being photographed… it’ll just feel like you’re hanging out with a friend who happens to have a camera.

REASON 2: IT BUILDS TRUST Think of it as a warm-up. You geet to see how I work, I get to understand what you’re comfortable with, and we build a relaxed rhythm together. It’s like a mini rehearsal – not just for the photos but for the whole vibe.

When couples feel relaxed and connected with their photographer, it shows in every single photo.

Trust me – that ease and familiarity makes all the difference.

REASON 3: YOU’LL HAVE GORGEOUS, MEANINGFUL PHOTOS OUTSIDE THE WEDDING DAY

Your wedding photos will be full of the beauty and emotion of the day – but pre-wedding photos? They’re more low-key, more you. They capture the calm before the whirlwind, and often, they’re taken in places that matter to you: the park where you walk your dog, your favourite beach at sunset, the spot where you got engaged.

They make for stunning keepsakes, save-the-date cards, wedding websites, or even a guestbook full of images that tell your story.

REASON 4: IT EASES WEDDING DAY NERVES

Even the most laid-back couples feel a few jitters on the wedding day. Having done a pre-wedding shoot means one less thing to worry about. You already know the flow, the experience, and how much fun it can be.

So when I arrive with my camera on the big day, you’ll already be thinking, “We’ve got this.”

REASON 5: IT’S A MOMENT TO PAUSE AND JUST BE TOGETHER

Weddings can be busy, emotional, sometimes even overwhelming.

The pre-wedding shoot is a little oasis in the middle of the planning chaos – a chance to slow down, connect, and remember why you’re doing all of this in the first place.

I often hear couples say, “That shoot was on of our favourite parts of the whole wedding process”

And that’s exactly what I want for you.
